The Poumanawa is a Specialist Learning Hub for learners with complex needs. This hub operates in partnership with St Joseph’s and Arahunga Specialist School. St Joseph’s hosts the hub and Arahunga School provides the specialist teaching staffing and programmes to meet the individual needs of the learners.
The Poumanawa Hub supports an inclusive model where all learners are included as fully as possible in class activities alongside their St Joseph's peers. Each learner has a personalised programme specifically designed to meet their individual needs. The Poumanawa Hub operates with a very high staff ratio and this enables the learners to receive support they need whether this is within mainstream classes or specialised targeted teaching in small groups in the hub.
